As the Director of Design and Construction I supervised a multidisciplinary engineering and construction department managing design and renovation of all buildings and systems; the needs assessments and feasibility studies and develops program requirements, including space needs, spatial relationship requirements between university program functionalities as well as develops initial cost estimates and project justification statements; the design standards for campus buildings and systems, the CAD databases for all campus buildings. The annual capital improvements program: initiated capital projects in per state capital requirements, developed the architect/designer selection for each project, and negotiates D and C contracts; the site-planning for each project and reviewed schematic designs for aesthetics, university design standards, codes, constructability, maintainability, and sustainability; the coordination of outside architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors for the development of the final product. Other responsibilities included delegating staff to capital project oversight, while maintaining the coordination all media information and public contacts regarding each project.

UNCA Campus Master Plan 



Update to the

1997 Master Plan; Phase 1 Report Complete. The Campus of UNCA is presently laid out in three concentric rings. The inner ring includes the Quadrangle and all academic facilities, the middle ring is pedestrian and vehicular circulation, and the outer ring includes student services, housing, and athletics. The update is proposed to separate the vehicular and pedestrian circulation, pushing the vehicular traffic to a forth and new, outer ring for automobiles, deliveries, and parking. The resulting documents:

New Construction;

Research and instructional wet laboratories, classrooms, and Offices. The project has been design under the US Green Building Council's guidelines for the LEED certification program  and the EPA/DOE guidelines for the Labs21 certification Program. Facility opened in the Fall of 2008.

North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness Promotions (Kimmel Arena and Sherrill Center)







New Construction;

The 122,000-square-foot North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness will house a dozen classrooms, research and teaching labs; strength training and aerobics rooms; offices, meeting rooms and seminar space; and a dance studio, wellness cafe, and a demonstration kitchen for healthy cooking and eating courses.

The facility also includes a multipurpose convocation center with seating for 3,200 to 3,600, offering for the first time a campus venue that could hold all of UNC Asheville’s students.  The project is presently under construction.
